A player from the Philadelphia Eagles has been charged with rape and kidnapping.

Josh Sills, an offensive lineman for the Philadelphia Eagles, has been charged with rape and kidnapping in Ohio. The indictment was handed down just two weeks before the Eagles are set to play in the Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Josh Sills, a rookie player in the NFL, was indicted on one count of rape and one count of kidnapping by a Guernsey County Common Pleas Court grand jury. This information was confirmed by the Ohio Attorney General’s Office in a statement released on Wednesday.

The charges against Josh Sills, both of which are first-degree felonies, stem from an incident that allegedly occurred in December 2019 while he was still in college playing for the West Virginia Mountaineers. The indictment states that Sills is accused of engaging in non-consensual sexual activity with a woman and holding her against her will.

According to the statement, the crime was immediately reported and a detailed investigation was conducted by the Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office. Sills, who is now 25 years old, is expected to appear in court on February 16, which is less than a week after the Super Bowl. The case is being handled by the Special Prosecutions Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

Bob Lange, the senior vice president of communications for the Eagles, has informed NPR that the team is aware of the charges against Josh Sills. In an email statement, Lange stated that the team is in communication with the league office and is currently in the process of gathering more information. He added that they have no further comment at this time.
