Brutus, a bullmastiff living in Northern California, has a special toy that he cherishes and doesn’t mind sharing with his baby brother. This toy is a yellow fluffball, which is the only one that Brutus has not torn apart, according to Bonnie Michalek, Brutus’ owner.
Despite being Brutus’ most prized possession, he offers the fluffball to his baby brother whenever he hears him crying. Bonnie shared with The Dodo that Brutus likes to carry the fluffball around in his mouth, and it’s always by his side. However, when his baby brother needs comforting, Brutus willingly gives it up to soothe him.
It’s heartwarming to see Brutus’ affectionate nature towards his baby brother, and the bond they share is truly special. Bonnie’s story about Brutus and the fluffball has captured the hearts of many people online, with some even sharing similar stories about their own pets’ acts of kindness towards their siblings.
It’s moments like these that remind us of the unconditional love and loyalty that our pets have for us and our families. And Brutus’ selfless act of offering his favorite toy to comfort his baby brother is a testament to the special bond between dogs and humans.
Although Brutus has a habit of destroying toys, he is known for being an incredibly loyal and gentle dog.
Brutus has been a part of Bonnie Michalek and her husband’s family since 2016 when they finally had a house spacious enough for a big dog like him. To Michalek, Brutus is like her first baby, and he holds a special place in their hearts.
Now, Michalek has to make the distinction of calling Brutus her “first” baby as she recently gave birth to their first human child, a son named Kayden, just 11 weeks ago.
Despite the new experience of having a human baby in the family, the Michaleks had no worries about how Brutus would react to the new addition. According to Michalek, Brutus has always been fond of children and gets excited every time he hears them laughing outside.
In fact, Brutus seemed to have known about the Michaleks’ pregnancy even before they did.
According to Michalek, Brutus had an instinct that she was pregnant even before she did. She said that on nights when her husband was working, Brutus refused to be in his crate and wanted to be near her instead. Michalek initially thought that Brutus was being stubborn, but in retrospect, she realized that he was trying to protect her.
As Brutus is very attached to Michalek, she made sure to involve him in the preparations for the arrival of their baby boy, Kayden. The Michalek family had no concerns about how Brutus would interact with the new addition to the family as he has always loved children and gets excited when he hears kids laughing.
After Kayden was born, Bonnie and her husband sent Brutus to stay with her parents. When they went to pick him up, Bonnie made sure to spend some one-on-one time with Brutus before introducing him to the new baby, knowing how attached he is to her.
Bonnie Michalek made sure to give Brutus some attention before introducing him to the new baby. She said, “Brutus completely bypassed my husband to meet Kayden. He immediately wanted to give him kisses and snuggle up to him.”
Brutus has been inseparable from Kayden since their first meeting. Whenever the little one starts crying, Brutus knows he has to do something to help. And what he does is to bring over his favorite toy, the sacred fluffball, to Kayden.
Michalek shared, “He grabs his favorite toy to bring it to Kayden to console him!”
Brutus believes that the fluffball can make his little brother feel better just as it always does for him, even though milk would probably work better.
The Michalek family is excited about what the future holds with Kayden, including their annual summer trips to their cabin where they enjoy hiking together. Bonnie Michalek fondly recalls visiting the cabin as a child and is looking forward to bringing her son along for the tradition.
The arrival of Kayden has brought about new experiences and growth for the entire family. Brutus, in particular, has discovered that there are toys out there that are not meant for dogs, in addition to his beloved fluffball. The family hopes that Kayden will share his toys with Brutus as well.
