An incredibly rare blonde seal cub has been spotted on the South Georgia Islands, and wildlife photographer Roie Galitz was lucky enough to capture some stunning images of it.
With less than 1% of the seal population being blonde, this little cub truly stood out among its fellow seals. However, this didn’t stop the other seals from treating it just like any other member of the group. They could be seen giving it nose rubs, playing together, and basking in the sunshine.
Despite its adorable appearance, the blonde seal cub may be at a greater risk of attack from predators. As with most albino or white animals, they lack natural camouflage, making them easier to spot by predators. Nevertheless, the blonde seal cub was just too cute to resist, and Roie Galitz found it hard to leave the little one and move on to other photography opportunities.
Galitz explained that the blonde seal cub was the only one of its kind on the beach, surrounded by seals with ordinary fur. However, it was still treated as a normal member of the group, showing that these seals don’t discriminate based on color. These incredible images are a reminder of the beauty and diversity of the natural world, and we should all cherish and protect it.
