Sam Smith and Kim Petras elevated their performance of “Unholy” with a horror movie-inspired show at the Grammys. Sam Smith opened the song in a red leather outfit, surrounded by dancers reminiscent of Samara from “The Ring.”
The performance then transitioned to Kim Petras dancing in a cage, surrounded by dominatrices in satanic headgear. Smith also wore a satanic top hat as massive flames lit up the stage.
Earlier in the evening, Sam Smith and Kim Petras won the Grammy for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Petras delivered an emotional speech after the win.
During the acceptance speech, Petras said, “Sam graciously wanted me to accept this award because I’m the first transgender woman to win this award,” which received a standing ovation from many musicians in the crowd.
Petras continued her speech, saying, “I just want to thank all the amazing transgender legends who came before me and broke down these doors, allowing me to be here tonight. I also want to thank my friend Sophie who passed away two years ago, who always believed in me and told me this moment would come.”
Petras concluded her speech by saying, “Thank you so much for your inspiration, Sophie. I adore you, and your inspiration will always be a part of my music.”
